Artist Statement

There are two things that I love most in the world - children and animals. Both are very frank and open-minded, and that's what I love most in them. And animals can't talk so the only way they express themselves is through emotions! I am a very emotional person myself and I want to understand the emotions of animals from the expression of their faces (and tails :)). I want to depict these emotions in a unique and non-standard way, and so I paint dogs that can fly or cows that can dance like a person. My folk art paintings are a world of fairy tales. I hope you can feel and see this world too!

Another area that I am interested in is contemporary art. I made my first contemporary paintings when I was redesigning my living room and needed to add some color to it. So I relate it to interior design and home decor, and when painting I often think about how it would fit the design of a room, what wall colors and what furniture it will match etc. I think that the main part of creating a contemporary painting is the choice of color. I like to use red and black colors because they are strong colors. I like green too because it is so natural and I like blue since it is the color of the sky. But I like neutral colors too. I seek to find unifying themes in diversity of colors in the same way as I strive to find unifying principles in the diversity of life. You can do many good different things and still be the same person. Similarly, a variety of colors can make a good painting.

In 2006 I exhibited my work in Madison, Platteville, West Bend, WI, participated in several competition shows at EBSQ where some of my works got Patrons' Choice and Patrons' Mention awards. In 2006 one of my paintings received a State Exhibit Award (WI Regional Art Program from University of Wisconsin-Madison). I have also been selling my works online, and now have my works represented in several states throughout the US (WI, WA, CA, CT, TN, TX, PA, IA, CO, NY, PA, MA, MO, MI, OR, AR, ..) as well as in Canada, France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine.

This year I will be participating in Madison Area Open Art Studios (October 7-9) and have an exhibition at the gallery in UW Hospital (also in October). Next March I will have an exhibition at the Whole Foods gallery. I will be happy to see you there.

Thank you,

Tamara
