Artist Statement >>

It is all about ART, it is all about passion and emotions!

I started painting when I was a child and I really enjoyed doing it. I started painting when I was a child, and attended an Art School in Ukraine between 1987 and 1989. However, I didn't pursue a career of an artist at that time, instead opting for a college degree in math and computer science and a teaching career after that.

For the last 10 years I worked as a freelance web and graphics designer (Please visit my site at www.SilwikDesign.com to see my work or if you need any help with website design or graphics design). But painting remained my hobby since childhood, and about a three years ago I decided to dedicate most of my free time to it. In the last year I have taken classes in acrylic and oil painting at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and watercolor classes at Madison Area Technical College (MATC). My web design work and my paintings are related in the sense that they let me use my imagination to create something new and unique, but I think that with a brush I can do more from my heart.

I have also been selling my works online, and now have my works represented in several states throughout the US (WI, WA, CA, CT, TN, TX, PA, IA, CO, NY, PA, MA, MO, MI, OR, AR, ..) as well as in Canada, France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine.

In my works I seek to find unifying themes in diversity of colors in the same way as I strive to find unifying principles in the diversity of life. You can do many good different things and still be the same person. Similarly, a variety of colors can make a good painting. I believe it is essential to come up with new ideas each time, I think it helps me grow.

Also I like to create dolls - small sculptures from polymer clay. I like my fairies and goblins, they are like a part of a fairy tale world for me.

I think my web design and my painting are related, but with a brush I can do more from my heart and more with my feeling about nature and imagination.

I hope you like my FOLK ART and ABSTRACT works. I paint because I love to paint.I like it soooo much! There are two things that I love most in the world - children and animals. They are very frank and open-minded, and that's what I love most in them. And animals can't talk so the only way they express themselves is through emotions! I am very emotional person myself and I like to be able to understand emotions of animals from the expression of their faces (and tails :)).
